Abstract: For many organizations, the Project/Program Management Office (PMO) is a very large rock on the road to agility. On one hand, the PMO in many organizations is the primary advocate of a centralized uniform process-oriented mindset approach to work. On the other hand, the same group often wields both an interest in agile methods and the organizational influence to push it forward. Meanwhile, many agile advocates speak of humanized work and then ironically delight in the failure and frustration of PMO co-workers.
What do we do? Can our advocacy for people over process also reach the people who advocate for process? How do we move from good guys / bad guys to holistic transformation?
In this exploratory workshop, we will address these questions head-on through collaborative dialog. Come with your experiences, and suggestions for involving, transforming, or circumventing the PMO to become more Agile, and we will all leave with insights and actions we can really use.
